Residents of south Leeds are invited to a free community meal to be held on the last Sunday of each month, in the Watsonia Pavilion in Cross Flatts Park.
Members of St Luke’s and St Mary’s churches, along with other local residents, are organising to put on the free two course meal between 5pm and 6.30pm. The meal is an opportunity to share a tasty nutritious meal (free of charge), and to meet other local people. August’s meal is on 30th and on the menu is chicken, buttered carrots, fresh peas, creamy mashed potato, home made stuffing and gravy. The vegetarian option is a heart warming casserole or bangers with creamy mashed potato. There will be home made puddings of rice pudding or mousse. All the food is being cooked by a professional chef, Steph Muscroft.
The hope is that this will become a community meal in its truest sense in the future – with those attending shaping how it looks and feels – whether that be through voting on future menus, providing ideas for entertainment (or providing the entertainment), setting tables, helping with cooking or washing up!
One idea already suggested is to hold a special Christmas meal at the end of the year. There will be vegetarian options to cater for the diversity we have in our community. If you want further information please contact Chris Mitton on 07759 558602.
