The first thing anyone says when they hear our name is Beeston who? what do they do? writes Beeston Broncos Coach Darrell Robinson.
The club in its present form has been going for around six years with myself being there for the last two. We play on fields behind the former South Leeds Sports Centre at the bottom of Beeston Road.
Since the sports centre closed its doors it’s made life quite difficult as we used it for changing rooms and toilets. As a result of this it we had to find somewhere else to use and call home which we eventually did in the West Hunslet Conservative Club on Dewsbury Road, so now after-match food and changing is all done there, as well as fundraising events and club get-togethers
We started this year with around 20 local kids having lost quite a few to other clubs mainly down to lack of facilities and coaching staff, but over the last few months the club is on the up, we now have around 50 kids training twice a week and have teams at under 8’s under 9’s and under 10’s playing matches at weekends and a couple of dedicated parents have stepped into coaching roles and are doing a great job.
We have been helped a great deal by St Luke’s Primary School, which is now where a majority of our players come from , they opened there doors and welcomed us into the school to give Assembly’s and hold an after school rugby club. This is now a twice a week club on school grounds and is one of their most popular after school clubs, the school even made a donation to the club towards new kits
We like to think we are a very friendly club and our aim is enjoyment not winning if the kids are all having fun they will want to come back week after week and the results will take care of themselves. We try to provide an enjoyable experience through rugby league which in its self provides structure and discipline which hopefully the kids will then apply to everything they do on and off the pitch.

We are a small club then but definitely going in the right direction, we are members of the Leeds Rugby Foundation and we do alot with the Hunslet Hawks and the Leeds Rhinos and we have achieved RFL club mark award.
We are always looking for new players and parents to join our club and help us grow , hopefully in the next few years we will be up to 5 or 6 teams playing from the club.
Anyone interested can find us training on a Tuesday and Thursdays at 6.30pm behind the old South Leeds Sports Centre or email us at beestonbroncos@googlemail.com for more information.
Watch out for Beeston Broncos match reports from next week on South Leeds Life!
