Been in the park lately?

Well, week two of the Community Reporters Course finds the famous five in Middleton Park on a photographic assignment. There was a hive of activity in the park today, so plenty of opportunities to get a decent shot of our wonderful and often underused park. Perhaps the pictures will encourage those who have never been in the park before to come and take a look at what the jewel in the crown of Middleton has to offer.

Let’s start at the cafe. If like me you like to include a stop for coffee as part of an outing, then take a look at the new cafe by the lake. The cafe serves the usual beverages (including my favourite hot chocolate with swirls of cream mmm) and nibbles such as crisps, buns and chocolate bars. The place is spotlessly clean and the pleasant staff from Leeds City Council Adult Social Care are always ready to serve with a smile.

I came across workmen from Leeds City Council Hard Landscape section hard at work making provision for an improved outlet from the lake. They were working in difficult conditions stood in muddy water and constantly having to remove water as it filled up in places they were trying to work on.

My last picture shows remnants of fencing waiting to be taken away from the land surrounding the new bandstand. (include photo of bandstand here) As you can see from the shot, we now have a fine space for relaxing and listening to the many entertainers that the Friends of Middleton Park have organised for our community. Take a look at the programme of planned events on the website there’s something to please everyone. I’m particularly looking forward to this year’s Oddsocks production of ‘The Comedy of Errors’ which takes place on July 9th at 7pm.
