Become a Volunteer Officer at Skelton Grange

Do you care about the world around you, and want to do something to make a difference?

Do you want to work in the environmental sector, but lack the experience to land your first job? 

Do you want to share your passion for the environment with the next generation?

If so, then a Volunteer Officer position at Skelton Grange could be just the thing!

TCV Skelton Grange cooking fireYou could spend your time learning to teach children about the world around them, and trying your hand at a variety of practical conservation skills. You will gain excellent work experience that will be valued by employers, develop a whole range of transferable skills, take part in a comprehensive training programme, and best of all join a friendly and supportive staff and volunteer team in a green oasis hidden away in South Leeds.

Ideally we are looking for volunteers who can commit to four days per week (Tuesday to Friday), for six months or more, in order for you to get the most out of the experience and training on offer.  However, please get in touch if you need more flexibility than this! You don’t need experience, just enthusiasm and the desire to work with children.

We can offer you:

  • A designated manager with monthly updates to support you in your role
  • Full Volunteer Officer role description
  • Full training programme including working with children, first aid, health and safety and risk assessment
  • Excellent work experience to help you land that job in the environmental sector
  • Travel expenses
  • Previous volunteers have gone onto work for organisations such as Groundwork Leeds, RSPB, Bradford Community
  • Environment Project, Envision Leeds, Leeds City Council, The Conservation Volunteers and various primary schools.

The Conservation Volunteers is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people, and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. References for prospective volunteers will be followed up and an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check will be carried out before volunteering opportunities begin.
