Stuck for something to do this summer? Here’s the latest events in Middleton Park for August, courtesy the Friends of Middleton Park group. Every Sunday up to 30th September, the Friends will be in the park, from 2 – 4pm. All events will be close to the car park/Lakeside Centre unless stated otherwise.

  • 1-August-2012 (Wed) -FREE CHILDRENS’ ACTIVITIES – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. National Play Day – ‘Get Out and Play!’ Under 8’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • 5-August-2012 (Sun) -Yorkshire Brass Quintet – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.Come along and listen to some fabulous music and have a  cuppa and a piece of cake whilst you listen. Sponsored by Leeds City CouncilFREE CHILDRENS’ ACTIVITIES – Playing with the elements: Air Play – making windmills and kites. Under 8’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • 8-August-2012 (Wed) -FREE CHILDRENS’ ACTIVITIES – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Parachute games and freestyle play session – YOU decide! Under 8’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • 12-August-2012 (Sun) -Teas in the Park – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.Come and enjoy a cuppa and a piece of cake with the Friends.FREE CHILDRENS’ ACTIVITIES – Playing with the elements: Air Play – making windmills and kites. Under 8’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • 15-August-2012 (Wed) -FREE CHILDRENS’ ACTIVITIES – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Circus Skills. Get some practice in with some of the circus skills  equipment equipment, in readiness for Professor Fiddlesticks Circus  Skills Workshop on Sun 19th – see below… Under 8’s must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
  • 15-August-2012 (Wed) -Evening Bat Walk – 8:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. Join Graeme Ashton to meet the batty residents of Middleton Park!  Guided walk using bat detectors to find out who is flying tonight. We will be walking mainly on paths but wear footwear suitable  for undulating and sloping ground. Bring a torch. Over 50 people came along on last year’s walk!   • 16-August-2012 (Thu) -Den Building and Tracks and Trails – 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Learn how to build a survival shelter and marking your own retrace  trail for others to follow.   • 19-August-2012 (Sun) -Circus Skills Workshop with Professor Fiddlesticks – 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Excellent fun for kids of all ages! Come along to this FREE Circus Workshop,  learn and practice your diabolical diablo, fantastic flower sticks tricks and balancing bonanza and be rewarded with a balloon animal. The Friends will be serving Refreshments.
  • 22-August-2012 (Wed) -Wednesday in the Woods – 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Sports, Arts and Crafts, Bouncy Castle, Face Painting – fun for ALL the family. Event costs £1 per child, and all children must be accompanied by a  responsible adult. This is a Health for All event. For more information phone 0113 2774819.
  • 25-August-2012 (Sat) -Parks for People – 10 a.m. to 12 noon Join the Estate Officer on a stroll around the park to see the changes  brought about by the Parks for People project.   • 28-August-2012 (Tue) – Bodgers Camp – 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Come along and learn more about traditional woodland crafts.  Ranger David Blackham will be running workshop sessions on how to make hurdles and besoms and will demonstrate  how to operate a pole laithe.
