Artwork on lampposts brighten up Dewsbury Road.

School children from 3 local primary schools have been working with The Tetley to design banners for the lampposts along Dewsbury Road in Beeston.

The first 16 banners were installed last week and have been designed by pupils from New Bewerley Community School, Hunslet Moor Primary and St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School. Groups of children from each school came together to work on the designs with an artist from The Tetley.

The children came together for an official launch of the banners last Wednesday and were congratulated by Councillor Mohammed Iqbal (Chair of the City and Hunslet dewsbury road.jpg2Neighbourhood Improvement Board). Councillor Iqbal said “Its great that our young people have got involved in this project and produced such eye-catching designs, well done to the children, the schools and The Tetley for doing such a good job”

Kenn Taylor Curator of Participation at The Tetley said “it was a real pleasure for us to work with the children. They had some great creative ideas and with their first-hand knowledge of the area, they have produced something that is relevant to this community. I think the finished banners look great

The banners are one element of a wider programme of improvements being undertaken along this part of Dewsbury Road including a new pedestrian crossing, better car parking for shoppers and general improvements to the environment.
