This Valentine’s season, White Rose Shopping Centre will be decorated with heartfelt messages of all types as part of its Avenue of Love, an area of the centre dedicated to celebrating love in its many forms.
Two hundred messages devoted to parents, partners, kids, or friends have been selected to decorate the affectionate area from 9–17 February 2019.
Submissions vary from the beautiful to the bizarre, including –
Leonie M’s bittersweet tale of support:
“I was on my way to a shift at the hospital and was involved in a serious car accident, in which my spine was broken in several places. George and I hadn’t been together long but he took on the role of caring for me, doing everything to support me physically and emotionally. He pushed me to walk further each day and supported me coming out of my wheelchair, off crutches, and out of my body brace. He gave up most of his summer to stay with me, missing out on events with his friends. George is such a positive person and without his help, love, and compassion I’d be in a very different place, so I wanted to say thank you.”
Rachel C’s ode to her mum:
“My mum is amazing. She was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018 and has remained so positive and strong-minded through her diagnosis and mastectomy – she’s so brave. Mum is the rock of our family. She looks after me and my sister who are registered blind, she supports me and my husband with our two sons who have autism, and she’s helping my dad following his knee replacement. She’s an incredible lady with a heart of gold.”
Lynsey K’s online romance:
“I met my husband Pete online. I moved to Yorkshire from Coventry as I couldn’t bear to be away from him, and he proposed on Christmas Day 2008. This time of year is very special to us as I found out I was pregnant the day before Valentine’s Day 2009, and we married that May. It’s our 10th wedding anniversary this year and I couldn’t ask for a better husband or dad – he’s still my best friend.”
White Rose’s Valentine’s Day celebrations also include live musicians playing favourite love songs, free ‘mocktail’ giveaways, and a Mr & Mrs-style gameshow – the fun ‘who knows who’ quiz will put Leeds couples to the test, for the chance to win prizes and those all-important bragging rights.
The Avenue of Love will be located throughout the malls of White Rose Shopping Centre through to Sunday 17 February 2019.
