On Sunday (11 November 2018) an Act of Remembrance will be held at Holbeck Cemetery on the 100th anniversary of the Armistice which brought the First World War to an end.
Two minutes silence will be held at 11am on Sunday 11 November – the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the elventh month. The service has been organised by Cllr Angela Gabriel, the Friends of Holbeck Cemetery and St Luke’s Church. Rev Alistair Kaye will lead the service.
Local historian Ken Burton will read out the names of the 87 service personnel buried in the cemetery, and 15 buried at St Mary’s, who died in the First and Second World Wars.
The service will take place in the oval in the centre of the cemetery. Please arrive for 10:50am. There will then be a procession to the Cross of Sacrifice, near to the Beeston Road entrance, where wreaths will be laid.
Everyone, of any or no faith, is invited to take part in the event and anyone may lay their own wreath or suitably decorated object.
Tea and coffee will be served at St Luke’s Church on Malvern Road after the service.
