The proposed park and ride scheme off Elland Road is continuing to make the news.
The council says the proposals will help tackle city centre traffic congestion and is considering using land next to Leeds United’s Elland Road stadium as a car park for commuters who would then be bused into the city.
Yesterday the YEP carried an article quoting Cllr Angela Gabriel as saying:
“It’s pointless, it won’t work.”
She also said most park-and-ride schemes are a distance outside of city centres and stop the traffic going in.
Residents’ group Beeston Community Forum is set to table official opposition to the plans after concerns were voiced at the forum’s last meeting.
In the comments on the YEP article, one person says the park and ride’s a good idea: ‘the moaning minnies at the Beeston CF will oppose anything just because they can. There are very few houses within 100 yds of Elland Road’. While another commenter says ‘The area is earmarked for regeneration, leisure and job creation, This folly does not fall into any of these criteria. STOP THE PARK AND RIDE NOW’.
