Depuy staff’s sponsored walk for local charity

Global Brand goes Local in St Luke’s CARES F-Aire-y Tale

65 employees at the Beeston-based Depuy Synthes (a Johnson and Johnson Company) donned their walking boots, packed their Kendall Mint Cake and their blister kits last week and walked an incredible 50-mile hike following the River Aire from its source at Malham Tan all the way to St Luke’s Church, Holbeck.

DePuy walk St Lukes

Over just 48 hours the team put their right foot forward and raised over £5,000 for The Shine Project which supports girls across South Leeds through mentoring, self-esteem courses, girls’ groups and work placements at The Shine Nail Bar.

St Luke’s CARES arranged a reception at the Church with the help of the SLATE Café and Keep Streets Live very own Jonny Walker. The weary travellers arrived at the Church to be fed and watered, and to hear about how their hard raised cash will be used to support the local community.

Depuy have been fantastic partners of St Luke’s CARES. This is their fourth sponsored event (previously hosting a Race to Brazil for the 2014 World Cup, a donate-a-photo scheme and another 50 miler!) and there enthusiasm to support our cause is much appreciated.

Depuy even host The Shine Nail Bar on their premises! Once a week The Shine Nail Bar visits the premises of Depuy providing Shellac fingers and toes services onsite to employees. It’s a great way of Depuy staying in regular touch with our work and ensuring employees look great! Every time they have their nails done its making a local difference as girls are supported.

On that note…The Shine Nail Bar continues to go from strength to strength. We now have a website www.theshinenailbar.org.uk where you can find out more about our cause (please do check out nifty video), book online and find the latest deals. You can also follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. And if you are a business, holding a children’s party, planning a wedding or holding a festival then please get in touch!

A big thank you to everyone who walked the 50 miles to support St Luke’s CARES. They have certainly put the Credo (Johnson and Johnson values) to work and I quote “We are responsible to the communities in which we live and work and to the world community as well. We must be good citizens – and support good works and charities.” What route next year?
