The South Leeds Academy is staging an innovative festival to inspire and boost literacy amongst parents and students in Key Stage 3.
With a national drive on the improvement and importance of literacy attainment, The South Leeds Academy are hosting their first ever ‘Literacy Festival’ on Monday 19 October 2015 between 5 – 6:30pm. Open to all Key Stage 3 students and parents, this action-packed event is a proactive way to boost pupil engagement and achievement.
The Academy have already secured a guest appearance from ex-student and current Superleague star Paul McShane, an address from the Secretary of State for Education The Rt Hon Nicky Morgan MP and will stage a whole host of practical workshops, expert advice and the exhibiting of student work.
In addition, a free raffle will take place for parents and students including prizes such as an Amazon Fire tablet, signed Super League rugby ball, a range of classic books, a food hamper and a massive selection of shopping vouchers. The creative flair of the Academy will also be on full show through a variety of musical entertainment and activities performed by the students.
Kathryn Bower, HR Officer at the Academy, said;
“We hope that our Literacy Festival will start to inspire our students (with support from their parents) to improve their Literacy skills to build on a better future for all. We hope that our guests will have a really enjoyable evening and leave with a positive outlook and understanding the importance of Literacy, and to know where they can get the support they need to achieve their potential.”
Having thirty percent of students with Special Educational Needs and a third speaking English as a second language, this festival is a crucial opportunity for The South Leeds Academy to continue developing its relationship with students, parents and the local community.
