What does summer taste like?
TCV’s Skelton Grange Environment Centre has planned a fantastic programme of events for children and adults to get involved in during the summer, encouraging participants to have loads of fun learning in the natural environment. Set in a beautiful eco-centre and nature reserve just two miles from Leeds city centre, Skelton Grange offers an inspiring natural setting for creativity, fun and seasonal feasting.
After the huge success of the spring events, Craig Worrall of Edible Leeds will be returning to lead a special Summer Wild Food Walk around Skelton Grange Environment Centre’s beautiful wildlife haven. Participants will find out what summer in Leeds really tastes like and learn about the abundance of edible plants and fungi that nature offers us for free in Yorkshire. They’ll get to take pleasure in a wealth of natural gourmet food on the day as Craig will be bringing some delicious wild food dishes with him, as well as cooking up the foragings of the day. Past participants have really been taken aback by the sheer quality of the food and the abundance of what’s on offer.
“Craig has a great depth of knowledge about wild food & wild mushrooms & has great enthusiasm for the subject. It made us realise all the wild foods we had been walking straight past. Also, the outdoor cook up of some of our mushroom finds was the icing on the cake. The success of his previous courses and the amazing feedback received has spurred the centre to book him again for the future and dates for another Cheese Making with Wild Herbs course are on the cards. Other courses to be held at Skelton Grange Environment Centre this summer include a Wire Bird sculpture workshop with the extremely talented Chris Moss, who is exhibiting at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and also a Willow Deer Sculpture workshop with the ever famous Phil Bradley, who has installations of his natural sculptures at RHS Harlow Carr in Harrogate.
All proceeds from the workshops will go towards the charitable work of The Conservation Volunteers improving people’s lives, health and skills through the natural environment.
