The Hamara Healthy Living Centre in Beeston, under its ‘Sporting Chance’ banner, is hosting a Community Safety Event on Wednesday (5 November 2014).
The aim of the event is to promote services and raise awareness around various crimes and the effects of these. The event is targetted at young people, but is also open to the whole community.
Sporting Chance is delivered in partnership with Leeds United and works with young people who are at risk and young people who are ex- offenders, the Police and community groups to understand the impact of anti-social behaviour and crime. Community leaders, residents, victims of crime will be given a platform to speak and encouraged to share their experiences of the effects of crime and fear on the local community.
A range of partner agencies will deliver diverse activities around the following themes:
- Effects of crime on the community
- Child Sexual Exploitation / Grooming
- Hate Crime (two projects looking at Islamophobia and Disability Hate Crime)
- Crime Reduction and anti-social behaviour
- The Prevent / Radicalisation agenda
- Domestic Violence
- Substance misuse – the effects of drugs and alcohol on the community
- Financial lending- Door stop.
Interactive workshops will be carried out such as graffiti workshops, DJ workshops, vox popping and lots more.
The event, which runs from 12-4pm, is free of charge and lunch will be provided.
