Kidz Klub children host a Happy Tea

Children from Beeston and Holbeck hosted a Happy Tea, last Tuesday (17 June 2014). The Happy Tea was put on by children from the Kidz Klub Sing-along Choir, which meets every Tuesday afternoon during term-time.

The children had invited some of our supporters as a way of thanking them for their generosity and support. On Tuesday, the children were joined by members of local congregations as well as representatives from ARISE South Leeds, Leeds Community Foundation and Monroe K. The children put on an afternoon tea and treated our guests to performances of a few of the songs they have been learning in Choir. A wonderful afternoon was had by all who came.

The Kidz Klub Sing-along Choir is just one of the activities that Kidz Klub Leeds runs in South Leeds and is attended by 30 children who live in Beeston Hill and Holbeck. Each week they come to choir to learn songs, play games and see their friends. The Kidz Klub Sing-along Choir is a place to build friendships, find belonging, grow in confidence, learn new skills and have lots of fun. The children love coming to choir and enjoy an exciting and energetic hour each week.

Our Happy Teas are a chance for the children to perform the songs they have been learning but are also much more than just a performance. The children gain confidence as they perform through the encouragement they receive from their listeners, raising their self-esteem. It is also The Happy Teas support their social development as it gives the children the opportunity for children to interact with, and talk to, older generations from the community. Some of the children get to practice their public speaking skills and it is also a place where children learn to serve the local community and bless other people.

A fantastic time was had by all at our most recent Happy Tea. The children did a brilliant job: the performances were beautiful, everyone was welcomed excellently and every child wanted to be the one to take each guest their cup of tea! We are so proud of the children for all they did to make the event a real success.

Kidz Klub works with 500 children in South Leeds (1400 children in total across the city) every week during term time, loving, nurturing and empowering children to mature into young adults with positive aspirations for themselves and their communities.
