Spring is definitely springing this week and Leeds Parks have published this great photo of frogspawn in the lake at Middleton Park.
Speaking of photos, The Culture Vulture has some proper photographs (much better than mine) of Temple Works in Holbeck taken by Si Cliff on the same tour I was on last week.
Spring cleaning has been given a helping hand by the Council’s South & Outer East Locality Team. Before and after photos show the improvements they’ve made to yards and at the back of Barkly Road in Beeston.
Local Councillor and Executive Board member for Adult Social Care, Adam Ogilvie, has written a post on the Better Lives for People in Leeds blog about those difficult family conversations about planning care for older family members.
Adam has also posted on the Cottingley Hall TRAC Facebook page about a meeting to progress a multi use games area for Cottingley. It’s early days, with the next step being consultation with residents and finding a location.
Our MP Hilary Benn started the weekly post on his website with news of Stephen Williamson’s death and also mentioned a visit to Middleton Park Court to meet residents with Cllr Kim Groves.
Lucy Potter’s Brazilian odyssey continues and you can follow it on her Lucylines blog. She has visited the favelas and flown south to Porto Alegre. She’s there to find out how Brazil does family support and met frontline ‘health agents’ who have basic skills, but importantly live in the neighbourhoods where “babies swing in hammocks 10 feet away from the stagnant river beds and rubbish tips burning waste in the hot day”.
The riverside community at the H2010 development have posted details of the new waste incinerator plant that is being built by Veolia across the River Aire on the Cross Green industrial estate. They are opposing the planning application for another waste recycling plant directly across the river.
We’ll draw a veil over their narrow loss to York Knights in the sunshine on Sunday and report that Hunslet Hawks have appointed Martin Flynn as their Community Development Manager. Welcome to South Leeds Martin!
Meanwhile the Beeston Broncos youngsters kicked off their season with two wins – well done!
There are several interesting events coming up at Beeston Parish Centre. We are encouraged to Spring Online at their computing event on Tuesday 1 April between 10am and 4pm. Thursday 3 April sees Joe Maiden from Radio Leeds host a gardening evening. Then on Saturday 5 April it’s their 1950s concert featuring Ken Romano in aid of the Yorkshire Cancer Centre.
And finally, the Holbeck Highline viaduct project got a boost this afternoon when our tweet about the project got re-tweeted by Stuart Maconie to 82,000 followers, after I chatted to him on BBC6 Music.
