An art competition to spark the imagination of pupils at schools across South Leeds has been launched by the White Rose Shopping Centre in partnership with Leeds City Council.
Pupils from across the 32 primary schools in South Leeds have been invited to produce posters to promote the bonfire and fireworks display at Middleton Park, sponsored by the White Rose, on Tuesday 5 November.
One winning poster will be selected from a panel of judges from White Rose and Leeds Council and the chosen artwork will be displayed throughout the shopping centre’s mall space and across other prominent locations in South Leeds.
The winner will also be rewarded by having the opportunity to set the first sparks of the Middleton Park bonfire and fireworks display and the lucky pupil’s school will be presented with £100 worth of gardening vouchers.
Dean Stratton, centre manager at White Rose Shopping Centre, comments:
“We are so pleased to be once again sponsoring Middleton Park Bonfire Night, it’s always a fantastic night that draws the crowds in from across South Leeds. This competition is also a great way of involving local primary children in celebrating Bonfire Night and to get them thinking about the importance of being safe on the 5 November.
“Over the past 16 years, White Rose has become established as an important community hub, supporting a wide range of initiatives that have benefited the local people. This is the centre’s fourth year in sponsoring Middleton Bonfire and we are certain this is going to be our biggest and best year for the most colourful and imaginative poster designs.”
The closing date for the poster competition is Friday 18 October and is open to all pupils across South Leeds and Wakefield. Each design must be no larger than A4 and clearly labeled with the title of the design, child’s name, age, school address and telephone number.
