The Holbeck Viaduct Project has won a prestigious Pineapple Award, often described as the “Oscars of place-making,” at the 2026 Festival of Place.
The project, which aims to transform the Victorian railway viaduct into a world-class green space and active travel route, beat out international competition to take home the trophy.
Tim Reid, Chairman of the Holbeck Viaduct Project, said:
“To be recognised on this level is a massive boost. We won against projects from across the globe, which shows that our vision for the viaduct isn’t just a local dream—it’s world-class design.
“This win will make a real difference as we continue our conversations with partners and planners to make the park a reality.”
The team includes Holbeck Viaduct Project CIC, Urban Wilderness, Edward Architects, Buro Happold, and the team are working with Network Rail, Railway Heritage Trust, Leeds Civic Trust, Leeds City Council and Leeds United FC.

Great achievement. I can’t understand though why the west Yorks combined Authority isn’t making it part of the new mass transit system. Perhaps a single tram line plus a green walkway could be constructed.
