Young artists participate in Royal Academy Summer Show

Young people from The Hunslet Club will be participating in the Young Artists’ Summer Show at the Royal Academy of Arts, a prestigious national exhibition celebrating the creativity of young people across the UK.

Over the past four weeks, young people from across The Hunslet Club have taken part in this exciting project through our Daytime Education, Monday Evening Project, Junior and Senior Youth Clubs, Art Camp, and Activity Camp. Last week, over 50 artworks were submitted to the online portal, and the club is hoping that one or more pieces will be selected for display in the gallery exhibition.

Each submission included a short description of the concept and materials used. Every section of the club produced multiple submissions, with artists aged from 5 to 17. One highlight is our collaborative piece, the giant fish, contributed to by all sections. This artwork represents collaboration, community, and the safe creative space provided at Hunslet through the youth clubs, camps, and education programmes.

The Royal Academy’s creative panel will review all submissions in May, with successful artworks announced soon after.

“We are thrilled with the imagination and creativity our young people have shown,” said Josh Parkin, Creative Arts Manager. “A huge thank you to all staff and young people who supported the project, we can’t wait to share the results and fundraise to take our young budding artists to London to see their work on display if successful.”

The Hunslet Club runs free art sessions during Youth Club nights each week on Mondays and Thursdays 4:30-8pm and Tuesdays 7-9pm.
