GO TaRA: Paid Volunteer Opportunity – Potentially

Do you live in the Garnet’s, Oakley’s or Burton Terrace?

How often do you get to stop and chat to people in the neighbourhood?

If it were possible to work within the community in which you live and get your weekly food shop paid for, would you be up for it?

If you do, then the following might be of interest to you.

Right now this is a speculative offer, but in order to try and get the money to do it, I need to gauge the public appetite for such an idea. So, here I am canvassing you all personally.

The Idea

To create a small crew, it is after all only a small area, that would be a visible presence in the streets doing work that will improve the environment whilst creating connections between members of the community.

The Deal

Volunteer: 1 day per week (weekly food shop (up to £50) paid for each week that you take part

Volunteer: 2 days per week (weekly food shop (up to £100) paid for each week that you take part

(Exact amounts paid upon the production of receipts)

The volunteer roles would include various tasks:

  • 1 meeting per month (always the first Monday of the month and within a short walk of your home)
  • Litter picks within the boundaries of the GO TaRA
  • Free tea and coffee mornings once a week at BasementArtsProject after litter picking sessions. (Optional)
  • Work with a professional on the creation of a communal garden. (Take away the fruits/vegetables/herbs of yr labour)
  • Work on creative projects designed to beautify the area, and create a sense of place and identity whilst engaging other community members in such activities

Community Garden Idea Proposal

Would you like to be involved in things like this?

Why?

Because …

The old world is dying, and the new world struggles to be born: now is the time of monsters

Antonio Gramsci

The old world has not worked for us. We have worked for it and in return have received very little. We must abandon those that have abandoned us in favour of lining their own pockets and instead take control of our collective destiny as a community.

Each week as I litter pick, there is a spot next to a bench by which there is always a pile of ripped up National Lottery scratch cards. These controlled little piles of shredded paper, once valued at two pounds now worth nothing, give off a sense of sadness; the slow deliberate destruction of another vanquished dream. I may indulge in the lottery in the future if we are allowed to pay our council tax with losing tickets.

For now though we must see beyond the crises of the world and start producing solutions from home.

All of the work associated with this idea relies on no prior knowledge, just a willingness to participate.

If you want to take part in this, somewhat experimental idea, then please email me

Just leave your name, address and contact details to express interest in working with me on this and I will get back to you.

The story so far…

Before

After (1 person -5hrs later…)

But now we need to try and push things further…
