Was one of your New Year’s resolutions to take up running? If you are not sure where to start, local running club South Leeds Lakers can help with their free ‘Couch to 5k’ (C25K) programme.
C25K is a running plan for absolute beginners. It works because it starts with a mix of running and walking to gradually build up your fitness and stamina.
The plan involves 3 runs a week, with a rest day between each run. One run, per week, will take place on a Tuesday evening during the South Leeds Lakers Club Night. The other runs will be discussed at the first session.
C25K is for everyone. Whether you’ve never run before or you just want to get more active, C25K is an easy way of getting fitter and healthier.
At the end of the 9 weeks participants will graduate by completing a 5km Parkrun.
The programme will be led by England Athletics qualified run leaders and being in a group is a very supportive atmosphere.
One of last year’s participants, Claire, described the programme as “hard and rewarding” she continued:
“I would say doing it with the Lakers is the best decision I made because it’s been amazing having all the support, I would not have done it on my own.”
Another, Amy, agreed:
“It’s been hard, but I’ve really enjoyed it and I’m proud of myself, because thinking back to week one I thought ‘no, I’m not going to get to week 9, no chance.’ In week one I probably couldn’t even run for a minute without being out of breath and today I’ve just run for 40 minutes non-stop, so I’m proud.”
The programme starts on Tuesday 3 February, but places are limited so sign up now here. Like all South Leeds Lakers activities it’s free to take part.
