
Communities across South Leeds are preparing for the festive season with a series of events to switch on Christmas Lights starting this week.
The first communitiy to illuminate will be Hunslet as Hunslet Tenants and Residents Association have organised to switch on the lights in Hunslet Square, outside the Library, on Saturday (15 November 2025). Hunslet Gathering will be leading the carol singing, so come along and add your voice from 3:45pm.
Middleton Park councillors have got together with Breeze to hold events at Belle Isle Parade on Monday 17 November and Middleton Park Circus on Monday 24 November. Both events run from 6:30-7:30pm with family fun activities and market stalls. The lights will be switched on at 8pm.
Hunslet Carr Residents Association have organised their swich on for Thursday 20 November with children from Hunslet Carr Primary School singing carols at the Welcome to Hunslet Carr Wheel, outside the Bay Horse pub at 5:15pm followed by the switch on at 5:30pm.
Holbeck Togetherhave roped in Leeds United legend Stuart Dallas to help switch on the lights in Holbeck on Tuesday 25 November. The event runs from 4-5:30pm with festive music, family friendly craft activities, hot food and drinks at St Matthew’s Community Centre (LS11 9NR).
The Salvation Army Band will be present outside Nisa on Town Street in Beeston to lead the carol singing from 6pm on Thursday 27 November. Once the lights are lit, free hot food will be served over the road in the Beeston Parish Centre. The event is co-hosted by St Mary’s Church, Beeston Festival and Beeston in Bloom.
All these events and the Chritmas Lights are supported by Councillors on the Inner South & West, or Outer South Community Committees.
