What’s On Roundup 20-26 September 2025

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.

We start this week in Beeston’s Cross Flatts Park where Beeston in Bloom will be holding a Plant Sale on Saturday morning from 10am-2pm at the Watsonian Pavilion.

Over in Hunslet Carr there is a charity fundraiser for Candlelighters at the Peggy Tub club on Woodhouse Hill Road, LS10 2EF. The day of fun and fundraising starts at 12:30pm and features bouncy castle, face painting, crafts, dance and stalls.

Then from 1-4pm it’s the Belle Isle Repair Café at BITMO’s GATE, LS10 3QH. The fixers, stitchers and kitchen knife sharpeners will be on hand to give your goods a second lease of life. As usual tea and toasties will be on offer. From 2:30pm the will be a Councillor surgery and then at 3pm there will be a planning meeting for next year’s Belle Isle Gala.

Also on Saturday the Leeds Knights take on the Telford Tigers in the NIHL National Cup. The ice hockey match faces off at 6:30pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.

On Sunday the Friends of Middleton Park are leading a guided walk exploring Beeston Wood on the northern side of the park. There’s lot’s to see – a medieval boundary ditch; the route of the best tram ride in Leeds; a lost ice house; one of the largest historical mines in the woods. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1:30pm, dress for the weather including walking shoes or boots.

A Councillor advice surgery will be held at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am.

At Holbeck Cemetery, Fairfax Road, LS11 8SY, volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.

There is a coffee morning and bingo at Cardinal Court in Beeston on Wednesday 10am-12pm organised by MHA South Leeds.

On Wednesday evening the Friends of Cross Flatts Park are holding their AGM at 6pm in the Watsonia Pavilion in the park. This is a great opportunity to get involved with the group and help shape their activities for the next year.

Holbeck Together are holding a Macmillan coffee morning, fundraising for the charity on Thursday from 9:30am-12pm at St Matthew’s community Centre (LS11 9NR).

Join the Countryside Rangers for a fun, family-friendly event collecting seeds to support local biodiversity. On Thursday in Middleton Park, meet at 1pm at the visitor centre and dress for the weather. Whether you’re a seasoned nature lover or just curious, everyone is welcome.

Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.

The Salvation Army hold their monthly Friendship Lunch on Thursday, 11am-1pm at their base on Hunslet Hall Road, LS11 6QB. It’s a warm space with chat and games etc plus a free snack lunch.

On Thursday evening Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy host an open evening from 5-7pm, for families with children moving into Year 7 next September. The school is next to Middleton Leisure Centre on Ring Road Middleton, LS10 4AX.

Leeds Involving People are holding a Transport Focus Group on Friday from 9:30am–11:30am, at BITMO’s GATE centre, LS10 3QH. Transport affects us all. This session feeds directly into the new Local Transport Plan, giving you a chance to influence real change. Book here.

And finally, on Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck ward can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.
