
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start this week down in Holbeck at Jamyang Buddhist Centre who are holding the Holbeck Jumble Sale on Saturday from 10am-1pm. Bargain hunt among the clothes, accessories and household items. It’s free entry and everything is £1 or less. Jamyang is on Ingram Road, LS11 9RQ.
Those who are worried by the actions of Elon Musk are invited to join a Tesla Takedown protest outside the Tesla showroom on Whitehouse Street in Hunslet, LS10 1AD on Saturday morning from 11am.
A piece of public art made by the people of Hunslet will be unveiled on Saturday afternoon 1:30-3:30pm at the Involve Centre on Whitfield Avenue, LS10 2QE. This is part of the Creative Communities project run by the Swarthmore Centre.
Hunslet ARLFC play Thatto Heath Crusaders in the league on Saturday afternoon. Kick off is at 2:30pm at The Oval, opposite Morrisons.
Also on Saturday the Leeds Knights take on the Peterborough Phantoms. The ice hockey match faces off at 6:30pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
The Friends of Middleton Park are looking for heroes to join their litterpick on Sunday as part of The Great British Spring Clean. Meet at 1pm at the visitor centre. The session will last for about an hour and finish with a well-earned cuppa in the cafe. Please wear stout shoes and bring gloves if you have them. Bags and litter pickers will be provided.
There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and at Ingram Gardens Community Centre from 10am-12pm. Finally they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday 10am-12pm.
Would you like to help co-write a Song For Hunslet? Opera North are holding their first workshop session on Tuesday from 1:30-2:30pm at the Involve Centre on Whitfield Avenue, LS10 2QE. A second drop-in takes place on Friday morning, 10:30am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, LS10 2NS.
Cllr Wayne Dixon (SDP, Middleton Park) will be holding a surgery at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road from 9:30-10:30am.
At Holbeck Cemetery, Fairfax Road, LS11 8SY, volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.
Semi-professional South Leeds FC play Wombwell Town on Wednesday evening at South Leeds Stadium, Middleton Grove, LS11 5DJ. The match kicks off at 7:45pm.
Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.
And finally, on Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck ward can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.
