What’s On Roundup 16-22 March 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Belle Isle where the Repair Cafe is back in BITMO’s Gate from 1-4pm on Saturday. Do you have a small item at home that you’d like the fixers to try to repair? Join them for a warm drink and enjoy a toastie. At 3pm there will be a meeting to plan this year’s Belle Isle Gala. Aberfield Gate, Belle Isle, LS10 3QH

The Moon Palace mobile observatory will be outside The Holbeck on Saturday from 4:30-10:30pm. Find out more about astronomy and take a closer look at the night sky if it’s clear. Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX.

On Sunday afternoon the Friends of Middleton Park will be leading a guided walk looking at 300 years of mining history in the park. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1pm. The woodland paths are wet and muddy so wear boots or walking shoes and dress for the weather.

Hunslet RLFC kick off their league campaign with a rearranged match against Newcastle Thunder at South Leeds Stadium on Sunday. The kick off has been brought forward to 1pm to avoid a clash with Leeds United’s game …

Leeds United entertain Millwall at Elland Road on Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is at 3pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley.

Belle Isle TMO will be planting trees and fruit bushes this week. You can help with the planting and find out how you can help look after the trees as they grow, on Tuesday from 10am at Low Grange View opposite the old dentist; and on Wednesday from 10am on Belle Isle Circus.

Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.

The St Luke’s Tenants & Residents Association will be holding their bi-monthly meeting on Thursday at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, LS11 8PD, starting at 6:30pm.

And finally, if you have any issues or questions for the Police why not drop in to Cottingley Community Centre for a cuppa with the PCSOs on Friday, 10am-12pm.

South Leeds Life is published by a not-for-profit social enterprise. We keep our costs as low as possible but we’ve been hit by increases in the print costs for our monthly newspaper which have doubled in the last two years.
