South Leeds Life is running another of its free Community Reporters courses – and there are places still available.
A course that will equip people from Belle Isle and Middleton to write news stories for South Leeds Life, or for their own community group, will start on Wednesday 17th April. The course runs every Wednesday morning for ten weeks at the Tenants Hall Enterprise Centre in Middleton and will cover:
- Writing news stories, comment pieces and columns
- Writing headlines
- Taking better photos
- Using audio and video
- Using social media to find stories and raise your profile
The course will boost your confidence as a writer and give you the chance to discuss ethics and how to keep the right side of the law. You don’t need any particular skills, but a basic knowledge of computers is helpful.
Martyn White who attended a previous course said:
“I went on the first reporters course and benefited from it. The tutor is very good, helping where needed, without being pushy. You don’t have to commit more time than you can spare when the course is over. Give the course a try, you may be surprised!”
The course is free, having been funded by the Middleton Park ward Community First Panel. Priority for places is given to people who live or work in Belle Isle or Middleton.
