As the heatwave subsides South Leeds faces another busy weekend of events and activities, here’s a rundown:
Saturday (27 July 2019) sees a top of the table clash for rugby fans as Hunslet RLFC take on leaders Whitehaven at South Leeds Stadium. Kick off is at 3pm and under 16s go free.
On Saturday evening one lucky community group will leave The Holbeck club with £600 thanks to South Leeds Community Projects. You hear the pitches and vote on who should get the funding. It all stats at 7pm.
On Sunday (28 July 2019) Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club are hosting a Rounders Festival at their Gipsy Lane ground in Beeston. The event promises children’s games, a bouncy castle, food and drink as well as a rounders tournament. Get along between 12-4pm.
Across the road on the Cockburn School sports field you can find out about the South Leeds Archery Group who are also hosting an open day. From 10:30am you can have a go, full instruction on archery will be given. Spot prizes will be given to top beginner archers.
The Friends of Middleton Park have organised a Wildlife Day in the park on Sunday from 12-4pm. RSPB will be attending with a display and information stall; Wise Owl bird of prey rescue will provide a static and flying display of birds including native British birds; Lion Learners will be bringing a range of animals and bugs for educational handling and display; and music will be provided the Chris White Jazz Trio,
Sunday will also see the annual procession through Beeston celebrating the birthday of the Prophet Mohammed. There will be rolling road closures to allow the procession to move from Hardy Street via Tempest Road, Maud Avenue, Lodge Lane, Stratford Street, Lady Pit Lane, Trentham Street, Dewsbury Road and Middleton Grove to the John Charles Centre for Sport. The closures will occur between 12:45 and 1:45pm.
Don’t forget the wild animal sculptures made out of Lego at the White Rose Shopping Centre and regular events such as parkruns at Cross Flatts and Middleton Woods, or you could take a ride on the oldest working railway in the world – Middleton Railway.
