Local Councillors Judith Blake, Kim Groves and Paul Truswell have welcomed a new signal-controlled pedestrian crossing on Ring Road Beeston next to the Urban Bike Park in Middleton.
The crossing is the result of requests from local people for safer facilities at the current informal crossing point, and follows traffic and pedestrian surveys on this busy section of road. The “toucan” crossing is specially designed for use by pedestrians and cyclists.
Starting this week (22 July 2019), the work is expected to last approximately two weeks, and will take place Monday to Friday between 9:30am and 3:30pm with temporary two-way signals in place. Saturday 3 and Sunday 4 August will see a full road closure with a signed diversion in place between 8am-6pm.
Councillor Judith Blake (Labour, Middleton Park), said:
“We are delighted that we have been able to respond to local residents’ road safety concerns and obtain this crossing. It will help local schoolchildren and the users of Middleton Park and the Urban Bike Park to cross the road in greater safety.
“There are understandably enormous demands for crossings across the city, and resources allow only a small number to be installed each year, so we are pleased that this location has been treated as a priority.
“We appreciate that the installation of the toucan crossing will cause some short-term inconvenience to local residents, and thank them for their understanding while this work is carried out.”
