Work begins on children’s swim centre in Hunslet

Four-time Olympic medal winner and TV presenter, Becky Adlington OBE, is opening a children’s swim centre in South Leeds.

Building work has now commenced at Swim! Leeds, located in the former Magnet store on City South Retail Park, Hunslet, alongside Pure Gym, Angling Direct and The Range.

The purpose-built venue will cost over £1m to build and is expected to open in Spring 2026. Features will include a child-friendly pool heated to 31◦C, an air-conditioned viewing gallery for parents and grandparents to comfortably observe the lessons, an abundance of free parking and large family changing rooms.

Swimming lessons will run seven days a week, catering for babies aged 0-3 and children of all abilities aged 3-11.

The business was founded by Becky Adlington and fellow Olympic swimmer, Steve Parry MBE, upon identifying a shortage of swimming lesson provision in key towns and cities across the UK.

The Leeds site will be Swim!’s 13th purpose-built venue in the UK and the fourth site in Yorkshire, with sister sites already built Batley, Castleford and Sheffield. The company also delivers lessons in 30 schools, colleges and community venues across the UK.

Up to 50 jobs will be created at the Leeds venue, including management, operations staff and swimming teachers.

Becky Adlington said:

“Ensuring as many children as possible have access to swimming lessons is an absolute priority of mine, so I’m really excited to be opening a new venue in Leeds.  We will be providing much needed learn to swim opportunities for children across the city and beyond.

“We’re confident our lessons will be the best in the Leeds area, and we can’t wait to meet all of the children and parents who come on their swimming journey with us.”

As a special pre-opening offer, parents can get their child’s first month of lessons for just £10 by registering their interest at www.swim.co.uk/leeds.

Places are limited, so pre-registration is essential.
