Over the next fortnight Christmas Lights will be switched on across South Leeds and we get ready for the festive season.
The first communities to illuminate will be Hunslet Carr and Beeston next Thursday (23 November 2023). Hunslet Carr Residents Association have organised their swich on with children from Hunslet Carr Primary School singing carols outside the Bay Horse pub at 5pm followed by the switch on at 5:30pm.
The Salvation Army Band will be present outside Nisa on Town Street in Beeston to lead the carol singing from 6pm. Once the lights are lit, free hot food will be served over the road in the Beeston Parish Centre. The event is co-hosted by St Mary’s Church, Beeston Festival and Beeston in Bloom.
Hunslet and Holbeck follow on Saturday 25 November. Holbeck Together are leading the organisers to start the festivities with a chance to buy gifts and decorations at the Holbeck Christmas Market in St Matthew’s Community Centre from 12-4pm. Then it’s outside onto the Moor for the lights switch on at 5pm. Hunslet Tenants & Residents Association have organised the switch on at Church Street at 6pm.
Lights in Belle Isle will be lit on Wednesday 22 November; and in Middleton on Thursday 30 November, but as we went to press no events had been organised for these switch ons.
