Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start on Saturday morning with the Middleton Makers Market, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewelery, soaps and food; all made by local people.
Trinity Network host their Community Reflections Café on Saturday 10am-12pm at the United reformed Church, Nesfield Avenue, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG
Leeds Dads will be holding another free Soft Play session, 10am-12pm on Saturday morning at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This for dads and pre-school children and there’s free tea and toast! Book: leedsdads.org/events
West Hunslet Salvation Army is having a pre-Christmas sale in their shop on Hunslet Hall Road on Saturday 11am-1pm. There are lots of great Christmas gifts, clothes and many other items. It’s followed by Colours of Autumn Lunch. Soup, a posh hotdog and cake, all for £3.50.
Leeds United entertain Queens Park Rangers in the Championship on Saturday afternoon. Kick-off is at 3pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley.
‘Creepy Boys’ is a bizarre comedy with just a splash of the occult. The audience will help the identical twins create their 13th birthday party. Warnings include sudden loud noises, adult language and sexual content. 16+. It’s on Saturday at 7:30pm at Slung Low’s Warehouse In Holbeck is on Crosby Street, LS11 9RQ. There are a number of Acts of Remembrance at war memorials around South Leeds on Sunday. Full details here.
St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston Hill, LS11 8PD are serving up their monthly family breakfast at 9:30am, you can stay for morning worship at 10:30am, but you’re not obliged to.
Sunday also sees the monthly Farmers Market running from 10am-4pm with lots of good food straight from the producers, at Armouries Square, Leeds Dock, LS10 1LT.
Also on Sunday the Leeds Knights take on the Swindon Wildcats. The ice hockey match faces off at 5:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
This Tuesday from 1-3pm, and then fortnightly in term time, the Leeds Libraries Story Bus is bringing its Story & Rhyme session to Parkfield Avenue, Beeston (LS11 7LX) near the children’s playground in Cross Flatts Park. It will also be outside St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck on Thursday from 10-11:30am.
On Wednesday Trinity Network, who provide services and activities for over 55s, are holding an Open Day at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG between 9:30am-3pm. Middleton Life local history group meet at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG on Wednesday morning at 10am.
Hunslet Tenants and Residents Association meet on Wednesday at 6:30pm at the Church of the Nazarene, Lupton Street, Hunslet, LS10 2QR.
Holbeck Together host a Wellbeing Breakfast on Thursday morning, 10-11am at St Matthew’s Community Centre, LS11 9NR.
In conjunction with Thought Bubble, the Yorkshire Comic Art festival, Leeds Libraries have free comics to give away. Join us on Friday at 10am at Hunslet Community Hub & Library and help us to achieve our aim to get everyone reading more.
And finally, the South Leeds Green Film Festival continues on Friday with a family friendly evening of kite making and film watching. Flying Paper is set in Gaza in 2010, this uplifting feature length film is a celebration of the creativity of Palestinian youth, in the most desolate of circumstances. Flying Paper is also being shown as part of the citywide Leeds Palestinian Film Festival. It all takes place at Beeston Hill Community Cinema at St Luke’s CARES Charity Shop, 246-252 Dewsbury Road, Leeds, LS11 6JQ on Friday starting at 5:30pm.
