What’s On Roundup 6-12 September 2025

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.

We start this week at Middleton Railway who are holding their Autumn Gala this weekend. Closing their Railway 200 celebrations, there will be frequent train departures, locomotive changes and the chance to ride in the guard’s van of a freight train. Featuring multiple locos from their collection, this event is always popular, and is a great day for enthusiasts and families alike. Joining the locos this year will be a steam roller (pictured) in the car park. 10am-4pm Saturday and Sunday, Moor Road, LS10 2JG.

Volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Saturday at Hunslet Cemetery, Middleton Road, to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.

The Church of the Nazarene host a coffee morning with affordable breakfast on Saturday morning, 10am-12pm. Lupton Street, Hunslet, LS10 2QR.

Saturday also sees the Skelton Grange Environment Centre’s Open Day. Featuring willow weaving, tree walks, circus skills, alpacas, cake and pizza. 11am-4pm, LS10 1RS.

The Tower Works Street Fest continues on Saturday and Sunday, 12-9pm, off Water Lane in Holbeck. You will find fresh produce and street food to handmade crafts, original art, craft beer, specialty coffee, live music, and so much more.

Saturday sees Hunslet Nelson’s First XI take on Altofts CC at their Gipsy Lane ground, LS11 5TT starting at 12pm. Then on Sunday they play Wrenthorpe CC starting at 1pm

On Saturday afternoon the Beeston Repair Café launches. Bring broken electricals, cloths needing alterations, a bike that needs attention. The volunteer fixers will do their best to mend them. 1-4pm at St Luke’s CARES shop, 246 Dewsbury Road, LS11 6JQ.

14 Piece Funk & Soul outfit The Good Foot Collective are headlining a benefit concert for Leeds Hospital Charity on Saturday at Eiger Studios New Craven Gate, LS11 5NF. Book tickets here.

On Sunday Leeds Corinthians Ladies Rounders team invite you to a Family Fun Day with music, stalls, kids activities, rounders games and bar. It all takes place at their ground off Ring Road Middleton, next to Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy, LS10 4AX from 12-5pm.

The Friends of Middleton Park are holding their monthly litterpick on Sunday, meeting at the visitor centre by the lake at 1:30pm. Equipment is provided so why not join them and help make sure the park looks its best for the Great Middleton Park Show next week.

Hunslet RLFC take on Sheffield Eagles at South Leeds Stadium on Sunday afternoon, kicking off at 3pm. Tickets at: hunsletrflc.ticketco.events/uk

There is a consultation drop-in about the rebuilding of Broomfield SILC in Belle Isle on Monday from 2-8pm at the school. Plans include improvements to neighbouring public open space and the diversion of a right of way. There will also be online sessions on Tuesday 11am-12pm and 7-8pm email projects.programmesteam@leeds.gov.uk for details of these.

There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and at Ingram Gardens Community Centre from 10am-12pm. Finally they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday 10am-12pm.

A new group is starting on Tuesday at Cottingley Community Centre. Wellies in the Woods will provide outdoor play and learning opportunities through storybook-inspired sessions. The free sessions run every Tuesday 1-2:30pm for eight weeks.

On Tuesday 9 September, 2:45-4pm you can sit in on an open rehearsal by the string players of the Orchestra of Opera North at St John & St Barnabas Church, Belle Isle Road, LS10 3DN. This a rare opportunity to go behind the scenes of a professional rehearsal and hear some beautiful music. No need to book and refreshments are provided.

On Tuesday evening join a Bat Walk in Hunslet Cemetery for an evening you won’t forget. Led by a Countryside Ranger, the walk starts from the chapel on Middleton Road, LS10 3BN. Booking essential here.

Men’s Talk is a theatre performance by men with lived experience of mental health issues. It is being performed on Wednesday at 10am at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck LS11 9NR. This is part of the Baton of Hope tour of Leeds on World Suicide Prevention Day.

Beowulf is a rather different theatre performance on Wednesday evening. It’s a wry and lively dissection of heroes, storytelling, and mythmaking. Over an hour, four storytellers recount Beowulf’s exploits; from battling Grendel to defeating witches and confronting dragons. However, they can’t resist interjecting with arguments about divinity, badgers, and the appropriate rewards for overcoming mythical beasts. 8pm at Slung Low’s Warehouse in Holbeck, book tickets here.

There is a drop-in councillor surgery at Gascoigne House, LS10 4YA in Middleton on Thursday morning 9-10am.

Belle Isle Parade Garden Action Day is on Thursday from 12:30-4pm. Meet at gates next to the Post Office on Belle Isle Parade. Remember, Incredible Edible run a gardening session every Friday the Belle Isle Community Orchard, off the Circus. And finally, Hunslet Tenants and Residents Association meet on Friday at 6 pm at the Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, Hunslet, LS10 2QE.
