
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start this week with a neighbourly initiative in Cross Flatts Park. Beeston Hill Community Association and Leeds Stand Up To Racism invite you to join a community Picnic in the Park on Saturday afternoon from 2pm. This will be a chance to share food, meet your neighbours and show that we have more in common than divides us. Outside the Watsonian Pavilion near the top of the park.
INSIGHT, the mental health peer support group are holding a table top sale from 1-3pm on Saturday at Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, Hunslet LS10 2QE.
Middleton Railway are hosting a Classic Car Rally on Sunday outside their station and museum at Moor Road, Hunslet 10am-4pm. As well as a dazzling display of classic cars from vintage sports cars to elegant limousines, you can browse a selection of trade stands selling automotive memorabilia, parts, and accessories.
Saturday also sees Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI take on East Ardsley CC at their Gipsy Lane ground, LS11 5TT starting at 12pm. Then on Sunday at 2pm the Women’s First XI play Morley CC, also at home.
On Sunday, 10:45am-12pm, morning Leeds Dads have organised a Dads & Kids Walk in Middleton Park. Book at leedsdads.org/events.
Following their win over Sheffield Eagles, Hunslet RLFC take on Oldham at South Leeds Stadium on Sunday afternoon, kicking off at 3pm. Tickets at: hunsletrflc.ticketco.events/uk
Residents in Beeston Hill are invited to drop into the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road on Monday to discuss practical solutions to environmental and refuse issues in the area. Mean Streets To Clean Streets runs from 10am-2pm and 5-6:30pm, you can pop in for five minutes or stay for four hours, but the organisers want to hear your views.
As it’s the first week of June there are a number of residents meetings taking place, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.
Councillors are holding another listening event to find out what the important issues are for residents living in the Lindens, Camberleys, Rowlands and Stratfords area of Beeston Hill. Your Community Your Voice is being held on Monday 2 June at St Luke’s Charity Shop, 246 Dewsbury Road starting at 6:30pm.
The Middleton Life History Group meets on Wednesday at 10am at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG.
Also on Wednesday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.
Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF
Also on Thursday, Beeston Community Forum meets at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
On Friday morning Middleton Elderly Aid host their monthly legal advice session from 9:30-11am at their social centre on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ.
There is a Police Contact Point at Cottingley Community Centre on Friday, 10am-12pm. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting.
And finally, the Tower Works Street Fest runs from next Friday to Sunday, off Water Lane in Holbeck. You will find fresh produce and street food to handmade crafts, original art, craft beer, specialty coffee, live music, and so much more.
