Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.

We start this week at Elland Road in Beeston where Leeds United entertain Arsenal in the Premiership on Saturday, kicking off at 3pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.

The Friends of Middleton Park are holding their monthly litterpick on Sunday, meeting at the visitor centre by the lake at 1pm. Equipment is provided.

Contrary to our newspaper listing, the game between Hunslet RLFC and Featherstone Rovers will not take place on Sunday.

Also on Sunday Leeds Knights take on the Milton Keynes Lightning in the NIHL National Division. The ice hockey match faces off at 4:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.

As it’s the first week of February there are a number of residents meetings taking place, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.

The Garnet and Oakley Tenants & Residents Association also meet on Monday at 6:30pm at the St Luke’s CARES Charity shop, 246 Dewsbury Road, LS11 6JQ.

Buy, Sell, Swap is the new version of the jumble or car boot sale and you can take part in one at Manorfield Hall Community Centre, Newhall Road, LS10 3RR on Tuesday 10-11:30am. Entry is free, refreshments will be on sale, get down a buy, sell or swap new and used items.

There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and at Ingram Gardens Community Centre from 10am-12pm. Then on Thursday they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street and the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road, both from 10am-12pm.

Stronger Together is a friendly support group for parents, guardians and carers who care for children and young people with disabilities. It is a monthly space to chat and share. The next meeting is on Tuesday, 11am-1pm at BITMO’s GATE, Aberfield Gate, LS10 3QH.

On Wednesday Holbeck Together are holding a Celebration of Culture, 10am-12pm at Matthew’s Community Centre (LS11 9NR). This is a day to celebrate the cultures that make our community vibrant – through food, music, stories and togetherness.

The Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets on Wednesday at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.

There is a drop-in councillor surgery at Gascoigne House, LS10 4YA in Middleton on Thursday morning 9-10am.

As part of the consultation on making walking and riding to school safer around Elements Primary School and Cockburn Laurence Calvert Academy in Middleton there will be a drop-in event at Middleton Leisure Centre, Ring Road Middleton, LS10 4AX from 3-7pm.

There are two further residents meetings on Thursday. Firstly, Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF.

Then at 7pm Beeston Community Forum meets on Thursday at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.

Middleton Elderly Aid host their monthly free legal advice drop-in on Friday morning from 9:30-11:30am at their Social Centre on Acre Road, LS10 4LF.

Hunslet RLFC face Huddersfield Giants from Super League in the Challenge Cup on Friday evening at South Leeds Stadium, LS11 5DJ. Kick off is at 7pm, tickets from: hunsletrflc.ticketco.events.

And finally, we return to Elland Road where Leeds United entertain Nottingham Forest in the Premiership on Friday, kicking off at 8pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.
