What’s On Roundup 31 August – 6 September  2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Holbeck, where the Tower Works Street Fest is already in full swing. With some of the very best street food and drink, music and entertainment, the launch of a new street food and makers’ market continues on Saturday and Sunday 12-9pm. Tower Works is on Globe Road, LS11 5FE

It’s MHA South Leeds’ Summer Fair on Saturday, 10am-12pm at their base at St Andrew’s Community Centre, Old Lane, Beeston LS11 8AG.

Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s Second XI take on East Leeds CC on Saturday at Gipsy Lane, LS11 5TT starting at 12:30pm. Then on Sunday the First XI play Altofts CC starting at 11:30am

Also on Saturday afternoon Hunslet ARLFC entertain Siddal ARLFC at The Oval, opposite Morrisons. Kick off is at 2:30pm.

On Saturday afternoon Leeds United, entertain Hull City at Elland Road in the league. Kick-off is at 3pm and you can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley. Before and after the game Burley Banksy will be selling his merchandise at The Holbeck (LS11 9QX) from 12pm.

Later on at The Holbeck, Elvis will be in the building, at least Lewis Hall’s award winning tribute show will be. The show starts at 8pm and tickets cost £3 members, £5 non-members.

On Sunday, 10:45am-12pm, morning Leeds Dads have organised a Dads & Kids Walk in Middleton Park. Meet at the Town Street entrance. Book at leedsdads.org/events.

North Leeds Jazz Orchestra will take to the bandstand by the Visitor Centre in Middleton Park on Sunday afternoon from 2:30-4:30pm thanks to the Friends of Middleton Park.

As it’s the first week of September there are a number of residents meetings taking place, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.

Also on Monday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.

The next Inner South Community Committee is on Wednesday, 1:30pm at Beeston Hill United Free Church, Malvern Road, Leeds, LS11 8PD. This is a public meeting where you can raise questions or issues directly with your Councillors.

The next drop in consultation session about the new mass transit system’s route through South Leeds takes place at the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road in Beeston, LS11 6RD on Wednesday from 3-6pm.

Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF

And finally, also on Thursday, Beeston Community Forum meets at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.

And finally, we will be distributing our September newspaper to 200 pick up points around LS10 and LS11 from Wednesday onwards so watch out for a copy.
