
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week in Beeston on Saturday where Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s Second XI take on Great Preston CC at their Gipsy Lane ground, LS11 5TT starting at 12:30pm. Then on Sunday, the Sunday XI take on Cleakheaton CC, also at Gipsy Lane, starting at 1pm.
INSIGHT, the mental health peer support group, are holding a table top sale from 1-3pm on Saturday at Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, Hunslet LS10 2QE.
Hunslet ARLFC entertain Dewsbury Moor on Saturday afternoon at The Oval, opposite Morrisons. Kick off is at 2:30pm.
Newcastle United are the visitors at Leeds United on Saturday, kicking off at 5:30pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.
Northern Roll runs this weekend including a Roller Disco on Saturday at New Dock Hall, Armouries Drive, LS10 1LT. It’s the Family Disco from 3:30-5pm; followed by the Adults Roller Disco from 6-10:30pm. Go to ls-ten.org/northern-roll-shop for information and tickets.
As it’s the first week of September there are a number of residents meetings taking place, starting with Middleton Community Group which meets on Monday, 6-7pm, at the Middleton Elderly Aid Social Centre, Acre Road, LS10 4LF.
The next Inner South West Community Committee is on Tuesday, 5:30pm at Leeds Civic Hall, LS1 1UR. This is a public meeting where you can raise questions or issues directly with your Councillors. The meeting will also be livestreamed and a recording will be available to watch on YouTube.
The Middleton Life History Group meets on Wednesday at 10am at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG.
Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF
Also on Thursday, Beeston Community Forum meets at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
Marshall Waddington’s Family Fun Fair rolls onto Holbeck Moor for two weekends on Thursday. With over 20 rides and attractions, it runs from 6pm-late on Thursday and Friday; 1pm-late on Saturday; and 1-7pm on Sunday.
On Friday morning Middleton Elderly Aid host their monthly legal advice session from 9:30-11am at their social centre on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ.
The Tower Works Street Fest runs from next Friday to Sunday, off Water Lane in Holbeck. You will find fresh produce and street food to handmade crafts, original art, craft beer, specialty coffee, live music, and so much more.
And finally, we will be distributing our May newspaper to 200 pick up points around LS10 and LS11 from Wednesday onwards so watch out for a copy.
