
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week down in Holbeck on Saturday morning where Jamyang Buddhist Centre are holding one of their ever-popular Holbeck Jumble Sales from 10am-1pm. With clothes accessories, household items and everything £1 or cheaper, plus the café and shop will be open. Ingram Road, LS11 9RQ.
Join Fruit Works and Incredible Edible on Saturday for apple picking (from 10:30am) and apple juicing (from 1pm) in the Belle Isle Community Orchard, behind 58 Belle Isle Circus. Bring your own bottle to take home some fresh apple juice, fun for all the family.
Rowland Road Play Patch, behind the working men’s club are hosting free Community Paediatric First Aid Training on Saturday. The informal, practical session focused on choking first aid, with plenty of time for Q&A tailored to the needs of parents and carers. This session is designed to build confidence in those who may not have had the chance to access first aid training before. Bring your kids along, they can play while you learn. No certification – just valuable, hands-on skills. All welcome – drop in any time between 11am and 2pm.
INSIGHT, the mental health peer support group, are holding a table top sale from 1-3pm on Saturday at Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, Hunslet LS10 2QE.
Leeds United entertain Bournemouth in the Premiership on Saturday, kicking off at 3pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.
At Sea is a fantastical puppet adventure! An uplifting tale of a sailor’s triumph over darkness; Non-verbal, with stunning projections and music. A life-affirming family show for anyone aged 6+. Our Sailor is lost without their Heart Compass. Their quest takes them through Coral Reef, a Siren’s Lair, right to the bottom of the ocean. Down at Leeds Dock they are holding another Makers’ Market at Fearns on the Boulevard, LS10 1PZ. Discover handmade lino prints, eco-conscious skincare, bespoke illustrations, botanical art and recycled silver jewellery – plus so much more! It’s a treasure trove of fresh discoveries and one-of-a-kind pieces – perfect for a relaxed weekend browse. Sunday 10am-4pm.
The force is strong at Middleton Railway on Sunday as they host their annual Star Rails event. Keep your light sabre handy and prepare to meet Imperial Stormtroopers and other Star Wars characters at Moor Road station, Hunslet, LS10 2JG, trains run 10:30am-4pm.
On Sunday the Friends of Middleton Park present The Friendly Band to round off their summer programme. On the bandstand by the visitor centre from 2-4pm.
The Outer South Community Committee, which now includes Middleton Park ward, will be meeting on Monday at 4pm at Leeds Civic Hall. The meeting will be livestreamed and a recording available to watch following the meeting.
Also on Monday evening, 6:30-8pm, the Beeston Hill Community Association will be meeting at the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road, LS11 6RD.
There are a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and at Ingram Gardens Community Centre from 10am-12pm. Finally they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street and the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road on Thursday 10am-12pm.
There is drop-in consultation session about planned changes to South Accommodation Road on Wednesday, 1:30pm-6:30pm, at Hunslet Community Hub and Library, Waterloo Road, LS10 2NS.
Middleton Primary School is holding an open evening from 3:30-5:30pm on Tuesday for families with children starting in Reception next September. The school is on Middleton Park Avenue, LS10 4HU.
Also on Tuesday, Cockburn John Charles Academy are holding their open evening from 5-7pm for families with children moving into Year 7 next September. The school is on Old Run Road, LS10 2JU.
On Tuesday evening councillors are holding a Local Listening Meeting for residents of the Budes, Bromptons, Camberleys, Cloveleys, Linden’s Rowlands, Stratfords, Trentham’s and Westbournes at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club LS11 6 from 6:30-7:30pm. This a chance to shape improvements to the area.
Also on Wednesday, the Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association meets at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.
Hunslet Carr Residents Association meets on Thursday, 6:30pm, at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre, LS10 2EF
Also on Thursday, Beeston Community Forum meets at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
Middleton Elderly Aid host their montyhly free legal advice drop -in on Friday morning fropm 9:30-11:30am at their Social Centre on Acre Road, LS10 4LF.
And finally, we will be distributing our October newspaper to 200 pick up points around LS10 and LS11 from Wednesday onwards so watch out for a copy.
