What’s On Roundup 27 July – 2 August 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week at Jamyang Buddhist Centre, Ingram Road, LS11 9RQ, who are hosting the Holbeck Jumble Sale on Saturday 10am-1pm. A fun morning of bargain hunting for clothes, accessories, household items and more and the Happy Yak café will be open for refreshments.

Join Leeds Umbrella CIC and Hunslet LPL on Saturday 12-1:30pm for a litter picking session. Meet at Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, LS10 2QE.

The Trinity Network Summer Fair takes place on Saturday at their base on Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG. Free entry from 11am-3pm with bouncy castle, pop up beach, outside activities, barbecue, mocktail station and many stalls.

Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI take on Gomersal CC on Saturday at Gipsy Lane, Beeston, LS11 5TT starting at 12pm. Then on Sunday the Sunday First XI entertain Baildon CC starting at 1pm.

On Sunday the Friends of Middleton Park are leading a guided Butterflies and Trees Walk around the park. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1:30pm, dress for the weather including walking shoes or boots.

Hunslet RLFC face Workington Town at South Leeds Stadium on Sunday. The kick off is at 3pm, under 16s go free with accompanying adult paying just £5. Match tickets are available from hunsletrflc.ticketco.events/uk

Beeston Hill Community Association meets on Monday evening to discuss the issue of drugs and related crime. The meeting takes place at the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road, LS11 6RD from 6:30-8pm.

On Wednesday morning from 10am the regular coffee morning takes place at Cardinal Court in Beeston, LS11 8HP, organised by MHA South Leeds.

The Holbeck Cemetery volunteers will be clearing and tidying on Wednesday morning from 10am. New volunteers are always welcome and equipment is provided. Meet near the entrance on Fairfax Avenue, LS11 8SY.

The Fabulous Fashion Workshop takes place in Leeds Discovery Centre, Carlisle Road, LS10 1LB on Wednesday morning, 10am-12pm. The family-friendly workshop is free, but booking is essential.

Breeze in the Park visits Cross Flatts Park on Wednesday. There are two sessions from 12-2:30pm and 3-5:30pm, booking is essential at www.breezeleeds.org/breeze-in-the-park. There is also a quiet session from 11am-12pm for children with additional needs. And the free school uniform exchange will be there all day from 11am-5:30pm.

Middleton Elderly Aid’s Memory Café takes place on Wednesday afternoon 1:30-3pm. This is open to anyone living with dementia and their carers.

The next drop in consultation session about the new mass transit system’s route through South Leeds takes place at The Tetley, Hunslet Road, LS10 1JQ on Thursday from 4-7pm.

Beeston Community Forum meets on Thursday evening at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ

And finally, a reminder that we don’t produce an August edition of our newspaper. The next issue will be out on Wednesday 4 September.
