Saturday morning will see the long-awaited return of parkrun events to Cross Flatts Park and Middleton Woods. The free, timed, weekly 5km walk, jog or run start at 9am from the top of Cross Flatts Park and from the Leeds Urban Bike Park. Register online to get your free personal barcode. Covid safety measures will be in place.
You’ve time for a shower before heading over The Hunslet Club for their Summer Gala which runs at their Hillidge Road base from 12-5pm. There’s a host of outdoor games and activities for children of all ages to enjoy. If you’ve never been to the club this is a great introduction.
Slung Low have shifted back from their Foodbank work to theatre and on Saturday evening they present A Lizard’s Tale – a one man show about conspiracy theories. As always it’s pay-what-you-decide, but booking is essential at slunglow.org/shows
Children can start Sunday with Cross Flatts junior parkrun at 9am at the top of Cross Flatts Park in Beeston. The 2km course is for children aged 4-14 years.
If you’re a fan of brass band music, don’t miss the Phoenix Brass Band playing on the bandstand next to Middleton Park Visitor Centre from 2-4pm, perfect for a Sunday afternoon. All organised by the Friends of Middleton Park.
Alternatively you may wish to watch Alan Kilshaw’s first game in charge at Hunslet RLFC. The Parksiders take on Keighley Cougars at South Leeds Stadium, kick off at 3pm. Buy your tickets here: hunslet.mysportstickets.co.uk/events/home
From Monday Middleton Elderly Aid will running their events indoors at their social centre on Acre Road. Their activities include gardening, exercise, computers, walking groups; and the lunch club will be back on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
On Wednesday the Hunslet Cemetery Volunteers will be at work guided by Ranger Heather. You can join them from 10am-1pm, all tools are provided but bring a packed lunch and a drink. Meet by the chapel on Middleton Road.
