What’s On Roundup 24-30 August 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Beeston where Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI take on East Ardsley CC on Saturday at Gipsy Lane, LS11 5TT starting at 12pm …

… and then it’s the Hunslet Nelson Music Festival on Sunday at their ground on Gipsy Lane, Beeston, LS11 5TT. The free, family-friendly festival features Feat Signals, Gas up Jupiter, The Indecisives, DJ Mango (DJ Set), Craig Dinnewell and Kiera Kelly. 12-6pm with music from 1pm; food, bar and children’s rides.

The Crooked Clock are hosting a SummerFest, also on Sunday, promising a full day of live music and entertainment with bands covering several different genres of music, an exhibition from local artist Lee Buccilli with his Leeds United inspired work, and other activities such as a bouncy castle and face painting.

As it’s a bank holiday, Middleton Railway will be running trains on Monday as well as Saturday and Sunday. They will also be open on Wednesday for the last time this school holiday. As well as running trains up to Middleton Park, the railway has a fascinating museum which is free to visit. Middleton railway is based at Moor Road, Hunslet, LS10 2JQ

There are also a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from and in the central atrium at White Rose Shopping Centre, both 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and outside St Matthew’s Community Centre on Holbeck Moor Road from 10:30am-12pm. Finally they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday 10am-12pm.

The Holbeck Cemetery volunteers will be clearing and tidying on Wednesday morning from 10am. New volunteers are always welcome and equipment is provided. Meet near the entrance on Fairfax Avenue, LS11 8SY.

There is a Free Baby Boutique and Free School Uniform exchange at Cottingley Children’s Centre LS11 0JP on Wednesday, 12:30-2pm. You can choose clothes and uniform for your children. In the Baby Boutique they provide clothes from new born up to the age of 5 and they have all school age uniform available.

On Wednesday evening our local semi-professional football club South Leeds FC take on Louth Town in the league at South Leeds Stadium, kick off is at 7:45pm.

The next drop in consultation session about the new mass transit system’s route through South Leeds takes place at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck LS11 9NR on Thursday from 8-11am.

And finally, Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, Hunslet, LS10 2QE host their monthly Table Top Sale on Friday, 2-4pm. Tables cost £5, contact 07429 776356.
