
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start this week with a free one-day women’s self-defence course running on Saturday at Involve Community Centre in Hunslet. The course runs from 10am-4pm and will teach you self-defence, self-confidence, knowledge and awareness. For more information and to book email claire@involveleeds.org.uk
Hunslet RLFC entertain Bradford Bulls in the Championship on Sunday afternoon. Kick off is at 3pm at South Leeds Stadium, Middleton Grove, LS11 5DJ. Tickets from hunsletrlfc.com, kids under 16 go free.
There will be a Councillor advice surgery at Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre on Acre Road on Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am.
At Holbeck Cemetery, Fairfax Road, LS11 8SY, volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Wednesday to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.
MHA Leeds South host a coffee morning and bingo session at at Cardinal Court on Wednesday morning from 10am.
Wednesday also sees Middleton Elderly Aid’s Memory Café for people living with dementia and their carers. It takes place at MEA’s Social Centre on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ from 1:30-3pm.
Semi-professional South Leeds FC play Wombwell Town on Wednesday evening at South Leeds Stadium, Middleton Grove, LS11 5DJ. The match kicks off at 7:45pm.
Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library, off Church Street, LS10 2NS.
A one-woman show, The Dreamtime Fellrunner is being performed at BITMOs Gate on Thursday at 7pm
Losar, the Tibetan New Year, falls on Friday and will be celebrated at the Jamyang Buddhist Centre in Holbeck. From 4-5:30pm there will be religious events including the hanging of new prayer flags. Then from 5:30pm onwards there will be food and festivities in the hall. Jamyang Buddhist Centre is on Ingram Road, LS11 9RQ. Their Happy Yak Café is now open Tuesday-Friday, 8am-3pm.
On Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck ward can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.
Also on Friday the Leeds Knights take on the Romford Raiders. The ice hockey match faces off at 7:30pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
And finally, a reminder that Ramadan starts on Friday. Islam’s holy month is a time of daylight fasting, prayer and charity.
