Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start this week with a note to runners to check whether Cross Flatts parkrun and/or Middleton Woods parkrun are going ahead given Friday’s stormy conditions. Both are due to start at 9am on Saturday.
Creative Communities, Swarthmore’s lottery funded arts project is holding another launch event in Middleton on Saturday, 10am-1pm at Middleton Family Centre, 256-262 Sissons Road, LS10 4JG. The event features information, exhibition, art activities, coffee and cake – families welcome.
There is an Open Day on Saturday at the Ruth Gorse Academy, Black Bull Street, Hunslet, LS10 1HW, 10:30am-1:30pm. This is a chance for children in Year 6 who will be starting secondary school next September to see what the school has to offer. The Principal will speak at 11am and 12:30pm.
The Belle Isle Repair Café is back at BITMO’s Gate centre on Saturday afternoon, 1-4pm. The Repair Cafe brings together things that need repairing with volunteers who can fix things. This month Mears will be at the cafe showing you how to make a wooden planter, plus there will be free tea, coffee and toasties.
There’s a Councillor surgery at Middleton Elderly Aid on Wednesday morning 9:30-10:30am; and a Memory Café in the afternoon, 1:30-3pm. Middleton Elderly Aid’s Social Centre is on Acre Road, LS10 4JQ
On Wednesday evening Songwriters and Songborrowers will gather at Hunslet Methodist Church, Telford Terrace, Balm Road at 7:30pm. Bring a guitar, your voice, or just your ears to listen to others.
Hunslet Remembered is a chance to reminisce and discuss local history on Thursday from 10am-12pm at Hunslet Community Hub & Library.
On Thursday both Middleton and Sharp Lane Primary Schools are holding open evenings from 4-6pm. These are aimed at children starting in Reception class next September.
MHA Leeds South will be serving up Breakfast Bites on Friday morning, 9-10:30am at Woodhouse Hill Community Centre in Hunslet Carr.
On Friday residents of Beeston & Holbeck can meet their Councillors at the monthly surgeries: 4pm at Beeston Library on Town Street; 5pm at St Matthew’s Community Centre in Holbeck; and 6pm at Cottingley Community Centre.
The Hunslet Club are holding a free Halloween Party from 6-9pm on Friday. The club is on Hillidge Road, LS10 1BP.
There’s also a Halloween party at The Holbeck on Friday, 7-11pm. Tickets are £2 per child, which includes a hotdog, bingo ticket and lucky bag, adults are free. There will be a DJ, party games and a fancy dress competition for adults and children. The Holbeck club is on Jenkinson Lawn, LS11 9QX.
