
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week at Middleton Railway where they are marking Yorkshire Day by hosting a food and drink festival this weekend. A Taste of Yorkshire will feature over 25 traders tempting you with a wide range of products, hot food, beers, ciders and cocktails. There will also be live music and free children’s entertainment all weekend. The festival runs on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-5pm.
Volunteers will be meeting at 10am on Saturday at Hunslet Cemetery, Middleton Road, to carry out various tidying up activities. New people are always welcome and equipment is provided.
The Church of the Nazarene host a coffee morning with affordable breakfast on Saturday morning, 10am-12pm. Lupton Street, Hunslet, LS10 2QR.
The Tower Works Street Fest continues on Saturday and Sunday, 12-9pm, off Water Lane in Holbeck. You will find fresh produce and street food to handmade crafts, original art, craft beer, specialty coffee, live music, and so much more.
Saturday sees Hunslet Nelson’s Second XI take on Townville CC Second XI at their Gipsy Lane ground, LS11 5TT starting at 12:30pm.
On Saturday afternoon the Beeston Repair Café launches. Bring broken electricals, cloths needing alterations, a bike that needs attention. The volunteer fixers will do their best to mend them. 1-4pm at St Luke’s CARES shop, 246 Dewsbury Road, LS11 6JQ.
Hunslet ARLFC entertain York Acorn on Saturday afternoon at The Oval, opposite Morrisons. Kick off is at 2:30pm.
On Sunday afternoon it’s time for Middleton’s Got Talent. The Friends of Middleton Park present an afternoon bursting with local talent, creativity, and community spirit. Hosted by DJ Danny, the event will showcase musicians and singers. Enjoy crafting, face painting, and family-friendly fun throughout the park. Grab a coffee from CoffeeSynthesis or a slice from Papa Dan’s Pizza, both serving up delicious treats all afternoon. 12-4pm on the bandstand by the visitor centre.
The Hamara Centre on Tempest Road, LS11 6RD are running a debating club this week, Monday to Thursday, 10am-12pm. The free sessions are for 10-16 year olds and booking is required, contact: Zainab.khalid@hamara.co.uk, or call 0113 277 3330.
Youth Services are running two more free Activity Days this week. The first is at Hunslet Moor, LS11 5NL, on Tuesday. Then on Thursday they will be at Coopers Field, Belle Isle, LS10 3HF. Both events run from 12-3pm, featuring inflatables, games, crafts and more. They are free, there’s no need to book, just turn up and have fun.
Acclaimed Japanese drummer Ryosuke Kiyasu will be performing at Eiger Studios, New Craven Gate, LS11 5NF, on Tuesday with support from Kawaiiyasu & Andi Jackson. Doors &:30pm, tickets from www.seetickets.com/event/ryosuke-kiyasu/eiger-studios/3388938
The Middleton Life History Group meets on Wednesday at 10am at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG.
The Hunslet & Belle Isle Community Project are running another Free Play Day at Hunslet Square (outside the library) on Wednesday from 1:30pm. Activities will include various water activities, a sand pit, chalk art, den building, bubbles, parachute games and sports. The Big Bike Fix will be on hand providing free simple bike repairs. No need to book, just turn up.
Yorkshire Contemporary kick off their free paint and play sessions, Paint Maze in Cross Flatts Park this week. Sessions run every Wednesday and Thursday in August from 11am-2pm, just below the tennis courts.
The Greenmounts & Surrounding Area Tenants & Residents Association will meet on Wednesday at 6:30pm at Rowland Road Working Men’s Club, LS11 6ED.
On Thursday, Beeston Community Forum meets at 7:30pm at Beeston Village Community Centre, off Town Street, LS11 8DQ.
There is a Police Contact Point at Cottingley Community Centre on Friday, 10am-12pm. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting.
And finally, Hunslet Tenants and Residents Association meet on Friday at 6 pm at the Involve Community Centre, Whitfield Avenue, Hunslet, LS10 2QE.
