
Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds.
We start this week in Belle Isle where there is a group litter pick taking place on the estate from 11am-1:30pm. Meet at BITMO’s Gate centre, Aberfield Gate, LS10 3QH and return afterwards for pay-as-you-feel toasties and tea. All equipment provided.
Staying at the Gate, from 1-4pm the Belle Isle Repair Café will be back. As well as the fixers and stitchers on hand to give your goods a second lease of life, there’s the opportunitity to get your scissors and kitchen knives sharpened. At 3pm there will be a planning meeting for this year’s Belle Isle Gala. There will also be winter coats and tea and toasties will be on offer. From 1:30pm there will be a Councillor surgery.
Leeds United entertain Fulham in the Premiership on Saturday, kicking off at 3pm. You can expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley before and after the match.
On Sunday you have two chances to see Opera North’s whistlestop guide to The Marriage of Figaro, Mozart’s comic masterpiece. They will be Belle Isle WMC (LS10 3PE) at 4pm and St Joseph’s Catholic Club in Hunslet (LS10 2QE) at 6:30pm. Both shows are free.
Hunslet RLFC kick off their Championship campaign on Sunday afternoon against Dewsbury Rams at South Leeds Stadium, LS11 5DJ. Kick off is at 3pm, pre-purchased tickets are £20; £15 over 65, student & Blue Light; £10 16-21 yrs; Free under 16s with an adult from: hunsletrflc.ticketco.events.
Also on Sunday Leeds Knights take on the Bristol Pitbulls in the NIHL National Division. The ice hockey match faces off at 4:15pm at Planet Ice on Elland Road.
A new Karate Group is starting on Tuesday at Cottingley Community Centre (LS11 0JH) and at Cranmore & Raylands Community Centre (LS10 4AW) on Wednesday. Both sessions start at 6pm, all genders welcome, ages 13+. Contact kushindojo1@gmail.com or just turn up and start training.
There will be a Police Contact Point at the Hamara Centre on Tempest Road on Thursday 10am-12pm; and another at Cottingley Community Centre on Friday, 10am-12pm. These are a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting.
And finally, another new group starts on Friday. The Open Door Mem’s Group is a welcoming space for men to socialise, share, listen and support each other. It’s running from 5-6:30pm at Cranmore & Raylands Community Centre (LS10 4AW).
