What’s On Roundup 13-19 July 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start on Saturday morning with the Middleton Makers Market, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewelery, soaps and food; all made by local people.

The Sao Tome and Principe (STP) community in Leeds are celebrating the country’s independence day with a barbecue and marketplace in Cross Flatts Park on Saturday from 11am-7pm.

The Hunslet Club’s biggest event of the year is their annual Summer Gala. It will take place on Saturday 12-5pm at The Hunslet Club, Hillidge Road, LS10 1BP. Organisers promise an afternoon of family fun with rides, inflatables, donkeys, showcases, DJ, food, drink and more. This free event is for the whole community to come and enjoy so bring along all the family. Our bar and tuck shop will be open to purchase food and drink.

Another Summer Fair takes place at Cardinal Court Extra Care Scheme, Cardinal Road, Beeston on Saturday 1-3 pm.

St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston Hill, LS11 8PD are serving up their monthly family breakfast at 9:30am, you can stay for morning worship at 10:30am, but you’re not obliged to.

Sunday also sees the monthly Farmers Market running from 10am-4pm with lots of good food straight from the producers, at Armouries Square, Leeds Dock, LS10 1LT.

Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI take on Great Preston CC on Sunday at Gipsy Lane, Beeston, LS11 5TT starting at 1pm.

The Hands Across Ceilidh band play in Middleton Park on the bandstand by the lake from 2-4pm on Sunday.

Friends of Cross Flatts Park host the Beeston Dog Show on Sunday, 2:30-4:30pm, with registration from 1:30pm. As well as the pooches, Swing Of Things will be providing live music, refreshments will be served in the Watsonian Pavilion and free craft activities will be available for children.

There are also a host of Police Contact Points this week. This is a chance to raise concerns or ask questions of the Leeds South Neighbourhood Policing Team in an informal setting. On Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Community Hub & Library from and in the central atrium at White Rose Shopping Centre, both 10am-12pm. On Wednesday they are at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library, 10am-12pm and outside St Matthew’s Community Centre on Holbeck Moor Road from 10:30am-12pm. Finally they will be at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Town Street on Thursday 10am-12pm.

On Tuesday evening Oddsocks Theatre bring their hilarious take on Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar to Middleton Park. The free show starts at 7pm, bring your own chairs or blankets and dress for the weather.

On Wednesday MHA South Leeds are holding an open day at the Involve Centre on Whitfield Avenue in Hunslet, LS10 2QE. Drop in from 10am and try out a few activities and let them know what you would enjoy.

The SEN-Tastic group meets on Thursday. It’s open to anyone who cares for children with special needs, parents, siblings, carers, childminders and grandparents and offers coffee, friendship, advice and support. The group runs from 9:15-10:30am at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD.

Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.

And finally, there will be an exhibition of artworks made as part of the Creative Communities project at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD on Friday from 12:30-3pm.
