What’s On Roundup 13-19 January 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Middleton with the first Middleton Makers Market of 2024. The market returns on Saturday, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. Lots of lovely handmade items including clothing, jewellery, soaps and food; all made by local people.

Leeds Dads who will be holding another free Soft Play session on Saturday morning, 10am-12pm, at Little Angels behind the Tommy Wass pub, LS11 7HL. This is for dads and pre-school children, it’s free and there’s free tea and toast! Book: leedsdads.org/events

The Community/Reflections Cafe on Saturday, 10am-12pm, offers a full English cooked breakfast at the United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle, LS10 3LG.

Read with Dad is an informal, friendly read-and-play session for kids aged 0-7 years and their male carers at Hunslet Community Hub & Library on Saturday 2-3pm. Meet other male carers in your community, discover some fantastic new books with your children, and make storytime a special time. There will also be the chance to do a simple craft activity, to play in the Library, and to ask for book recommendations for your family. Free refreshments are provided. No booking required – just drop in.

A free Sunday breakfast is also being offered at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD. Sunday at 9:30am, everyone is welcome to join them for good food and good company.

The ‘Better Beeston’ campaign launches on Sunday at Rowland Road Club, LS11 6ED. At 2pm there is an organised community clean up, with the launch, tea and cake in the club at 4pm.

The monthly Adventures in Reading Book Club for children aged 7-11 years will be meeting at Hunslet Community Hub & Library on Wednesday, 3:45-4:45pm. The club is free, but booking is  essential at ticketsource.co.uk/leedslibraryevents

SEN-astic is a support group meeting at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, LS11 8PD. It’s open to anyone who cares for children with special needs, parents, siblings, carers, childminders and grandparents. This month’s meeting is on Thursday, 9:15-10:30am. Come along for a coffee, friendship, advice and support.

Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.

The St Luke’s Tenants & Residents Association will be holding their bi-monthly meeting on Thursday at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, LS11 8PD, starting at 6:30pm.

And finally, there’s a chance to meet PCSOs from the Neighbourhood Policing Team to raise any concerns or ask questions over a cuppa at Cottingley Community Centre, LS11 0HJ, on Friday 10am-12pm.
