Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.
We start this week in Middleton where the monthly Makers Market takes place on Saturday, 10am-2pm, at Middleton Park Circus. You’ll find all sorts of handmade treats including soaps, jewellery, food and clothing. It’s all made by local people so get along and support the local economy.
Trinity Network hold their Community Reflections Café on Saturday morning 10am-12pm at United Reformed Church, Nesfield Road, Belle Isle.
Middleton Railway is celebrating 90 years of the Diesel engine this weekend. They will be running a range of locally built historic diesels, plus a special guest engine from Stoke and they are even opening the Balm Road branch for some trips. The Railway, Moor Road, Hunslet is open 10am-4pm on Saturday and Sunday. Entry to the museum is free, day rover tickets cost £10 adult, £4 children, (well behaved) dogs are free. You could take the train to Sunday’s Fun Dog Show, organised by the Friends of Middleton Park, but perhaps not if you’re entering your pooch in the Barkiest Dog category. The show takes place around the Visitor Centre by the lake from 1-4pm with entries being taken from 12pm.
The NHS is holding a recruitment event at Elland Road Football Ground on Monday 10am-7pm. You can find out a wide range of roles including clinical and administrative jobs. You can drop in at any time, there’s no need to book.
If you’ve got an issue you wish to discuss with the Police, you can chat with your local PCSOs over a cuppa at Hunslet Community Hub & Library on Tuesday, at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Wednesday and at Beeston Community Hub & Library on Thursday. All sessions run 10am-12pm.
‘Football Freddie’ continues its community tour at Hamara Healthy Living Centre, Tempest Road, Beeston on Wednesday. The family friendly show starts at 6pm. Tickets are just £3, read our review here.
White Rose Speakers will be getting together again on Wednesday evening, 7pm, at Jury’s Inn hotel, Brewery Wharf. Practicing public speaking is a great way to boost your confidence.
Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.
The Great Get Together takes place in Cross Flatts Park on Thursday 11am-4:30pm. Inspired by the late Jo Cox MP and her message of unity, the free and accessible event is a chance for the community to come together to enjoy food, live music, sports and games and much more.
And finally, it’s the monthly Hunslet Library Social on Thursday, 12:30-2pm. They will be having fun with paper and Digital collaging techniques – over tea and biscuits of course!
