What’s On Roundup 10-16 August 2024

Here’s a roundup of some the main events taking place over the coming week in South Leeds. For full listings go over to our What’s On calendar here.

We start this week in Holbeck where a new monthly market is coming to Holbeck Moor Park on Saturday from 10am-2pm. Organisers promise a great selection of stalls including local makers, delicious food, second hand stalls, plus free crafts, table tennis and more on offer.

Middleton also has its monthly market on Saturday 10am-2pm at Middleton Park Circus. A range of products will be on sale including clothing, Asian food, homemade body products, even a travel agent!

Hunslet Nelson Cricket Club’s First XI take on Lightcliffe CC on Saturday at Gipsy Lane, Beeston, LS11 5TT starting at 12pm.

Leeds United have two home games this week. On Saturday they kick off their league campaign against Portsmouth at Elland Road, kick-off at 3pm. Then on Wednesday they face Middlesborough in the League Cup, kicking off at 8pm. Expect the usual heavy traffic and parking issues around Beeston, Holbeck and Cottingley on both days.

St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston Hill, LS11 8PD are serving up their monthly family breakfast at 9:30am, you can stay for morning worship at 10:30am, but you’re not obliged to.

Sunday also sees the monthly Farmers Market running from 10am-4pm with lots of good food straight from the producers, at Armouries Square, Leeds Dock, LS10 1LT.

Also on Sunday the Friends of Middleton Park are leading a guided walk exploring the former South Leeds Golf Club land. Meet at the Visitor Centre by the lake at 1:30pm, dress for the weather including walking shoes or boots.

Leeds Youth Service are running three activity days this week. On Monday they will be at Blenkinsop Field, Acre Road, Middleton, LS10 4HT; on Tuesday they will be at Hunslet Moor, Burton Row, LS11 5NL; and on Thursday at Cardinal Square, Beeston, LS11 8HS. All three sessions run 12-3pm, they are free and you don’t need to book, just turn up and join the fun.

The first of two sculpture workshops organised by BasementArtsProject is at the Hamara Centre, Tempest Road, LS11 6RD on Tuesday, 11am-1pm. Book your place here.

Wednesday sees an upcycling workshop at Tenants Hall in Middleton, LS10 4HX. Learn sewing skills and make a bag from old clothes. 10am-12pm, book by emailing ourfuturebeestonhub@gmail.com.

Semi-professional South Leeds FC play Shelley FC in a cup game at South Leeds Stadium on Wednesday evening, kicking off at 7:45pm.

The SEN-Tastic group meets on Thursday. It’s open to anyone who cares for children with special needs, parents, siblings, carers, childminders and grandparents and offers coffee, friendship, advice and support. The group runs from 9:15-10:30am at St Luke’s Church, Malvern Road, Beeston, LS11 8PD.

Leeds Baby Bank will be at Dewsbury Road Community Hub & Library on Thursday 10am-12pm offering support to people to access support services, community activity and longer-term support. They also gift families an essential top-up of items like nappies, wipes, formula and toiletries.

And finally, Breeze in the Park visits Middleton Park on Friday. There are two sessions from 12-2:30pm and 3-5:30pm, booking is essential at www.breezeleeds.org/breeze-in-the-park.
