Featuring songs from legendary indie band The Wedding Present, ‘Reception’opens tonight (22 August 2025) at Slung Low’s The Warehouse in Holbeck.
Reception is a brand new musical written by Matt Aston that will take you back to the sticky dance floors and crimped hair of 1980s Leeds. Inspired by the the band’s 40 year career, the show includes indie classics My Favourite Dress, Kennedy, Brassneck, the band’s debut single Go Out and Get‘ Em Boy and more, presented in stunning new arrangements.
A story of love gone wrong, love gone right and then love gone wrong again …
It’s the summer of 1985 and a group of Leeds friends are celebrating the end of their university days. But life doesn’t always work out as planned, as events unfold over a graduation ceremony, a funeral, a wedding and, of course, the reception …
You should always keep in touch with your friends … or should you?
Reception runs until Saturday 6 September. Tickets are priced from £16.90-£48.50 and £59.50-£69.50 for ‘Wedding guests’ including cabaret seating, fizz, programme and goodies. Book here.
On Monday (25 August) there will be a special Pay As You Feel community performance, opening the doors so everyone can be part of the celebration – simply chose the ticket price that works for you. PAYF applies to all available tickets including Wedding Guest tickets.
The company is raising additional funds to support the development of a local community cast. You can find out more about their crowd funder here.
The Warehouse in Holbeck is located on Crosby Street, LS119RQ.
