Tetley’s and The Tetley team up to support artists

Tetley’s and the original home of Tetley’s Brewery, The Tetley, now a centre for contemporary art and learning, have today announced a new scheme to support emerging talent in Leeds.

The Tetley’s Associate Artists Programme (TAAP) is a year-long programme that will support the development of local artists through a tailored mentoring and development and hopes to foster a new generation of artists and help provide opportunities in Leeds and Yorkshire.

Emily Hudson, Brand Manager for Tetley’s Brewery said:

“TAAP builds on Joshua Tetley’s own history as a Leeds’ entrepreneur and visually supports emerging creative talent in Leeds and Yorkshire. Joshua Tetley set up the brewery nearly 200 years ago, taking an experimental and enterprising approach, his emphasis then was to experiment, refine and produce a high-quality product. TAAP takes this dedication to quality and innovation to support exciting new talent in Leeds today. Leeds is the home of Tetley’s so we’re thrilled to be part of this initiative which will provide a unique opportunity for upcoming talent in the region.”

Bryony Bond, Artistic Director of The Tetley said:

“We’re delighted to announce this new initiative supported by Tetley’s Beer, Leeds has a wealth of creative talent, but outside of London it can be difficult to refine your practice and make a career as an artist. TAAP aims to contribute to making a real difference for a small number of artists, to bring new talent to national attention and demonstrate the opportunity for artists that’s possible in Leeds.”

Applications to the scheme are open with a closing deadline of 9am on Monday 6 August. Interviews with shortlisted artists will be held on 29 August. Selected artists will be announced in September. TAAP is looking for artists who can demonstrate a strong direction in their practice, but who will benefit from eternal support and recognition to take their talent to the next level. Each selected artist will have a budget of £1,500 to spend on bespoke needs, such as a guest mentor, curatorial visits or developing work.
