Teenagers are invited to find out more about careers in engineering at a UTC Leeds sixth form open evening for prospective students.
UTC Leeds, on Sayner Road, in Hunslet, specialises in advanced engineering and manufacturing and recruits students from the age of 14 as well as at 16. UTCs provide academic and technical qualifications for 14 to 19-year-olds to match the skills needs of regional employers, supporting economic growth and employment.
Parents and young people can find out more about Year 12 places starting this September at an open evening on Wednesday 17 January 2018 from 6-8pm. To book your place, visit www.utcleeds.co.uk/open-evening or call (0113) 353 0140. Visitors will be able to meet the Principal, teaching staff and current students, and tour the new facilities that include the latest computer aided design, robotics and science equipment.
Mark Kennedy, Principal, UTC Leeds, said:
“We are inspiring the next generation of leading engineers, scientists and innovators, and preparing them for great career and university prospects. Our students develop the technical, personal and professional skills that top universities and employers are looking for.”
UTC Leeds is sponsored by leading employers and the University of Leeds, which is among the top 100 in the world for engineering and technology. The £10 million facility recruits from across Leeds City Region. Students learn in industry standard facilities. Employers have helped to design the curriculum, set industry projects and provide work experience and placements. UTC Leeds opened in September 2016.
Post-16 students can follow a number of different pathways towards university or high quality apprenticeships at the UTC by studying four A Levels or an engineering technical qualification accompanied by up to three A Levels.
UTCs are non-selective and government-funded. Students usually join at the age of 14 in Year 10 or aged 16 in Year 12 and have the opportunity to complete academic qualifications, including GCSEs or A Levels, as well as a technical qualification. Visit www.utcleeds.co.uk . Follow @UTCLeeds.
